4 – Little Sister’s Dream
Lingsu politely declined the kindness of her clan members.
The harvest was poor this autumn, but the families of her two grandfathers were doing relatively well. Besides, they were blood relatives within the fifth degree of mourning, so Lingsu thought it was no problem to accept things from them. However, most families in the clan were having a hard time, so how could she accept the food rations they saved for free?
Their family hadn’t reached that point yet.
After seeing off the two groups of people, Lingsu picked a cabbage from her own vegetable garden and brought it back: “How about we cook some vegetable porridge tonight and make it thicker? There are still two pancakes left from the Zuo family’s grandmother. I’ll heat them up later and leave them for my second brother and mother?”
Granny Zuo gave them six pancakes, and the three of them ate four, leaving two left.
But the pancake was only the size of a palm. Second Brother and Mother had to wade through the muddy road to go to town and back to buy things, so they should be very hungry.
Before Lingyu could say anything, Qixun said, “Let’s cook some rice. I’m afraid my second brother won’t be full with just a pancak.”
Lingsu thought for a moment and said, “That’s fine. Our Xiaoxun now knows how to care for others.”
That’s what I said.
Qixun was embarrassed for a moment, but then again, she did seem a bit heartless before.
She was afraid that her third sister would notice her change, so she changed the subject guiltily: “Big sister, Xiaowu, why do you two look unhappy today? Are you worried about our family? In fact, there’s no need to worry. We’re not without a place to live now. I’ll find a way to earn money for our family later, and I will definitely not let you guys go hungry.”
Lingsu and Lingyu were amused by her.
Lingsu said, “You’re such a little kid, but you’re still thinking about making money? Don’t worry, I, my second brother and my mother are at home. You and Xiaowu just need to take care of yourselves.”
Having said that, Lingsu was actually thinking that she had inexplicably remembered her past life last night. If she were still the twelve-year-old girl of yesterday, she would really have to worry about her family’s future.
With the memory of her past life, she was very frightened at first, but after half a day, she had adapted to it.
Although she died at the age of sixteen in her previous life, she was a famous and extraordinary doctor. She also had martial arts skills, so she could just practice them again in this life. As for medical skills, except for acupuncture, she didn’t need to practice any other skills. How could someone like her be afraid of not being able to support her family?
She was no longer the orphan she had been in her previous life.
At first, she had no regrets about life and wanted to die. But in this life, she was Lingsu of the Yan family with parents and brothers and sisters, and she had her own responsibilities.
Perhaps, God took pity on her for being alone and helpless in her previous life, and gave her the family she had today.
In this life, she would be fine and live the life she once hoped for.
As long as Qixun was not interested in someone, they probably wouldn’t leave any trace in her mind, but she had an animal-like intuition, so she almost immediately felt the sadness in Lingsu’s heart.
“Big sister, are you sad?”
Lingsu’s eyes immediately turned red when she was asked. She rubbed Qixun’s head but smiled brightly: “No, I’m very happy to have you.”
This sounded strange, and Qixun looked at her a little confused.
To be honest, she had never been able to understand other people’s emotions. Her uncle’s favorite saying was, “My Yan Xiaoseng[1] is such a fool.”
In fact, she totally disagreed with her uncle’s evaluation. First of all, she was not a coward, and secondly, she felt that she had rich emotions in her heart.
Sometimes she felt that other people’s emotions were too complicated and she was unwilling to spend precious time analyzing them. Most of the time, she felt that other people’s emotions had nothing to do with her.
But she was still willing to spend some time to care for those close to her.
Lingsu was touched by her confused look and patted her head. All the sadness brought by the memories of the past life seemed to be healed at once. She turned to Lingyu and said, “Xiaowu, you’ve been busy for a long time. Go play with Xiaoxun. I will go to the well to pick and wash the vegetables and come back soon.”
Lingyu nodded slightly when she heard that. She waited until Lingsu carried the vegetables in the basket to the well before she climbed onto the bed. She didn’t speak to Qixun, but just leaned against the wall in a daze.
Seeing that she didn’t speak, Qixun simply tried to communicate with her own space.
For most of the day, she had been trying to sense her own space. She could already feel the existence of the space, but there seemed to be always a barrier preventing her from entering.
As long as it was still there, it was fine. She intuitively felt that she could still enter the space in the future, it would just take time.
Her space covered an area of about three hundred acres, with three connected buildings. One was used for her daily experiments and work, one was a library, and one was for storing items.
These three buildings were prefabricated buildings that she had purchased over the course of nearly twenty years in her previous life and installed bit by bit by herself. They were very large, covering an area of approximately 1,300 square meters, which was almost the size of two acres of land.
Most of the remaining land was planted with fruits, vegetables, medicinal herbs, and flowers that he collected, and she also raised some chickens, ducks, geese, and pigeons.
In her previous life, she spent most of her time outside of work in that space. In fact, because of those fields, she could be considered half an agricultural expert.
She didn’t know how the time in her space was calculated. From her death in her previous life to her reincarnation, if the timeline of the space were also based on this, then how desolate would the land in the space be?
Hopefully, her space would open up soon.
As long as there was space, living would not be a problem at all.
You know, all her belongings from childhood to adulthood were basically stored in this space. Apart from other things, there was quite a lot of gold, silver, jade, and jewelry.
Her uncle was a girl-obsessed man and would buy her several sets of jewelry every year. Hanfu[2] was popular at that time. Only counting the traditional clothing and accessories from various dynasties, she had several sets every year from childhood to adulthood, although she almost never wore them. As for furs, she had no shortage of them.
Not to mention daily necessities, almost everything in that category was available.
Just as she was thinking about it, she heard Lingyu sighing beside her.
There was something wrong with this girl; Qixun glanced at her.
Twins were particularly sensitive to each other’s emotions. If it were someone else, Qixun would definitely not bother to care, but twin sisters were different after all.
Feeling that she seemed very sad, Qixun’s own mood also became depressed: “Xiaowu?”
Lingyu forced a smile and said, “Fourth Sister, I’m fine. I just had a dream last night. I dreamed that I became another girl. That girl didn’t live well. I feel sad when I think about it.”
What was going on?
What did it mean to dream of becoming another girl?
Could it be that she had awakened her memories of her past life like herself?
Qixun scratched her head. If Xiaowu had awakened her past life memories like herself, judging from the way she looked, she probably wasn’t very happy in her past life?
Otherwise, as her twin sister, she wouldn’t feel so inexplicably upset.
Qixun felt a little distressed for a moment.
She had no brothers or sisters in her previous life, her little cousin was born too late, and she was a real genius, so she basically never went to school with her peers. Not to mention brothers and sisters, she didn’t even have friends of the same age.
Of course, she didn’t have the time or need to make friends.
But she never felt that there was anything missing during the thirty-eight years of her past life.

Hànfú [汉服] lit. “Han clothing,” as in the clothing of the Han ethnic group (the majority ethnic group in China). It’s gotten very popular in the past decade as a replacement for qipao or cheongsam as the “default” traditional clothing to represent Chinese people. While it can be made as historically accurate as possible, it is also often designed to fit modern sensibilities and styles — see Wikipedia – Hanfu movement for more information. ↩︎
