Summary

Yan Qixun died in a laboratory accident when she was thirty-eight years old and was reincarnated as a small peasant girl in an ancient farming-and-studying family. After a house fire when she was eight years old, she inexplicably recovered her memory of being a scientist in her previous life. Then she found out, what a coincidence: her whole family had recovered their memories of their previous lives.

Then she discovered that all her biological family members were big shots. Her father was the Ancestral Dragon,[1] her mother was a famous scholar, her eldest brother was the First Emperor's crown prince, her elder sister was a peerless doctor, her younger sister was a flower in a fairy garden,[2] and her second brother was directly a god.[3]

Yan Qixun felt that she often seemed out of tune with her closest relatives because she wasn’t awesome enough.

Translator’s Note

“Father-fighting” refers to the act comparing family background, often in a somewhat arrogant manner — as if someone is settling an unrelated argument by saying, “Well, my father’s the leader of the free world!”

Our protagonist, Qixun, is basically reborn into a family full of famous figures from history, literature, and myth; thus, her family background is elevated to a height almost nobody can compare to.

In a way, this story is almost half-fanfiction, with famous characters from Chinese novels and myths as well as Chinese history taking on prominent roles. However, the world setting, plot, and our main protagonist Qixun are all fully-realized three-dimensional concepts created entirely by the author.

The interaction between famous literary characters and historical figures who wouldn’t have any intersection, plus the emphasis on interpersonal relationships balanced with action and adventure make this one of my favorite webnovels to date, despite not having been updated in nearly half a year. It also reminds me of more famous works of traditional literature in the Western canon, such as Dante’s Inferno, where a relatable “modern” protagonist interacts with many famous figures on a long hero’s journey.

Even if you don’t quite understand the cultural allusions (and I definitely miss many of them!), this story is still really fun and enjoyable purely from an action/adventure and slice of life standpoint.
